The Town of Newport Fire Department is currently accepting Letters of Interest for the Fire Captain promotional process. The successful candidate will work a 48/96 hour shift schedule. Interested personnel meeting the minimum criteria should submit their Letter of Interest to Deputy Chief Ainsworth no later than 4:00PM on July 9, 2026.

Salary Range – $66,640 – $69,417 annually not including FLSA overtime

Minimum Criteria

Possession of a valid class B North Carolina driver's license.

Possession of NC Firefighter I/II and Driver Operator/Pumps certification.

Possession of NC Fire Officer I and Fire Instructor I certification.

Possession of NC Emergency Vehicle Driver certification.

Possession of NC EMT certification.

Possession of NC Technical Rescue Ropes and Swift Water Rescue.

Technical Rescue Common Passenger Vehicle and NIMS 300, 400 within 1 year of promotion***.

Must have 2 Years with Newport FD and 4 years’ experience as a career Firefighter/EMT. (5 Years of Creditable Volunteer Service Will Count as 1 Year of Career Service For This Requirement).
