The Town of Newport is seeking a full-time Finance Technician, who is an experienced professional with strong interpersonal and financial competency skills. The Finance Technician performs a variety of accounting tasks involving journal entries, bank reconciliations, payroll, purchase orders, accounts payable, and financial reporting. Work includes authorizing and distributing computer generated purchase orders, generating a variety of records and reports and compiling data for reports, maintaining information in spreadsheets and data bases and records processing. The employee also assists the Finance Director with reviewing and processing payroll, preparing new hire and enrollment packets and assisting with benefits enrollment.

 

This position requires excellent written/verbal communication skills to effectively convey financial topics to staff, vendors, and citizens. The position is also involved in grant administration and performance measurements.

 

Preferred candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or directly related field; 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible accounting and fiscal administration experience, preferably in a local government setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Salary is dependent on education and experience. The Town offers a generous benefits package including membership in the North Carolina Local Government Employees Retirement System; 5% 401(k) contribution with no match required; 100% employee-only paid health, dental, life, disability and vision insurance; paid holidays, vacation days, and sick days annually.

Firefighter Paramedic - Full Time

The Town of Newport Fire Department is currently accepting applications for two (2) Full Time FF/Paramedic positions.  Position works a 48/96 schedule. Our department covers a seventy-five square mile area with a steadily increasing call volume of 2,500 calls for service in 2021.  The department cross staffs fire and EMS apparatus.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 
High school diploma, Valid NC Driver’s License, NC Office of Emergency Medical services credential of NCOEMS Paramedic, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS, Healthcare Provider BCLS certification
NC FF II, Haz-Mat Ops, (NIMS) ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800. 

 

Applicants must also pass oral boards in Carteret County prior to beginning work.  Applicants must be physically capable of carrying out the duties that firefighting and EMS require. 

 

Starting salary with built in overtime: $52,392.00.

The Town of Newport is seeking a full-time Planning & Zoning Administrator, who is an experienced professional with strong interpersonal and planning competency skills to oversee the Town’s Planning & Inspections Department. The Planning and Zoning Administrator is responsible for developing, establishing, and executing a system for the Town’s growth and development which conforms to the directives of the Town Council and Town Manager.

This position requires excellent written/verbal communication skills to effectively convey planning and zoning topics to staff, elected officials, and citizens. The position is also involved in code enforcement violations which requires a familiarity with codes and ordinances regulating various Town functions.

Selected candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Public Administration or directly related field; 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in a local government setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree is preferred.

Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

The Town of Newport is seeking a Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator that is a proactive individual with the ability to function as part of a team and independently under general supervision. Operates the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant; makes adjustments to the equipment to maintain proper water quality, water flow, and volume; performs basic preventive maintenance to pumps, chemical feeders pumps and related equipment; performs water sampling and maintains daily records and reports of work performed and any other assigned tasks.

 

Applicant should have the ability to perform demanding physical tasks and work in all types of weather conditions. Hours are Monday- Friday 8AM to 5PM but must be able to work nights and holidays if called in for emergency repairs or disaster response. Position requires rotating weekend duty and after-hours on-call duty once training on the system is complete.

Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.  Valid North Carolina Driver's License (Class B CDL with Tanker within 90 days of employment). Minimum requirements include NC C-Well and NC Grade 2 Wastewater Certification.   May consider training the right candidate.
